INFORMED CITIZENS MONITOR PREVENTION OF FUTURE HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS AND WORK OF THE OFFICE OF THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA BEFORE THE EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS

Public dialogue on improving the legal framework preventing future human rights violations due to the lack of transparency of the conduct of the Office of Representative of the Republic of Croatia before the European Court of Human Rights has not been conducted in Croatian society so far, nor has participation of civil society organizations as observers of this mechanism been requested.

The project “Informed citizens monitor the prevention of future human rights violations and the work of the Office of the Representative of the Republic of Croatia before the European Court of Human Rights” will change this situation by requesting amendments to the Regulation on the Office of the Representative regulating these issues. The requests will be supported by a series of public events for public education through the media.

The project is implemented with financial support from the Active Citizenship Fund in Croatia.

PROJECT GOAL

The aim of the project is to encourage public dialogue on improving the legal framework preventing future violations of human rights due to the intransparency of the conduct of the Office of the Representative of the Republic of Croatia before the European Court of Human Rights, and to inform the public about the implementation of decisions of the European Court of Human Rights and action plans reporting to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

During the implementation of the project, there will be a series of opportunities for cooperation and meeting of educated and empowered CSOs with educated lawyers in eight counties in deprived areas and interested media that will be regularly informed about the course and achievements of the advocacy campaign and about the work of the Office of Representative. The newly formed and strengthened coalition of CSOs dealing with human rights, youth, LGBT rights, minorities and from Zagreb and eight counties will remain as a permanently interested actor for monitoring the work of the Office of Representative of the Republic of Croatia, and the general, expert and political public will be informed about mechanisms for protection of human rights and mechanisms for implementation of decisions and judgments of the European Court of Human Rights.

The Centre for Cultural Activities coordinates all activities in the project, and will build a coalition of associations that will carry out public advocacy activities.
